Casa Gloria
Guajar Fondon
A village house steeped in history in the secluded village of Guajar Fondon,
twenty minutes drive from Granada´s Costa Tropical. Built in the 16th
century it was said to have belonged to the Castillian chieftain Juan Zapata
murdered by Muslim rebels in 1569. It is an ideal base to explore the region,
to ski in the Sierra Nevada, to walk in the hills and mountains all around
or to lay on the beach. There are numerous castles and ruins in the area.
The house is entered through an ancient door into a central patio with a fountain
bubbling in its centre. From here there is access to the kitchen/dining/sitting
room area which has been sympathetically restored. A stairway leads from the
patio to the first floor where there is a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom,
a further double room and a room for a sofa-bed. There is also on this floor
another bathroom. From here there is a stairway to the roof terrace, one end
of which has a pergola to give shade, and from where there are views of the
village and surrounding countryside.
A really special house with a well documented history.
