Casa de la Cueva
Durcal
Something different in a couple of ways. Firstly, this is a house on the edge of the town of Durcal, but still very much part of it. Secondly because it has a cave of five metres by four metres, which in the summer is deliciously cool. (As would your wine be if you used it as a bodega.) You enter the house from the street, directly into a smallish room with a fair-sized and newish bathroom attached. Down a couple of steps and you are in the kitchen-diner, a snug room with a fireplace.
Down a couple more steps and you are outside in the internal patio and directly in front of you is the cave, down some more steps. To the left of the patio is a stable which could be used as another room or opened to make a larger patio, half of it covered.
On the first floor there are a further four rooms, two of which could be knocked into one to make a large room of 6m x 3m.
There is a metal ladder leading to the second floor, where there are at the moment two covered terraces and an attic room. This floor has a host of possibilities., To fill in the terraces, to open one or two of them entirely to the sun, to make more bedrooms, to convert the attic into another terrace or raise the roof and make a bedroom.
At the moment the electricity is disconnected, but once this is re-connected the house could be lived in whilst a renovation took place, or if this didn’t suit the client, a partial restoration, (of the top floor) and a lot of DIY would give a very unique house indeed.
